Professor of Development Studies, University of Dhaka and noted economist Dr Atiur Rahman has been appointed as Governor of Bangladesh Bank. He has joined on 3rd May, 2009 for a tenure of four years.

Dr Atiur Rahman completed his Honours and Masters in Economics from Dhaka University in 1973 and 1974. He obtained his MSc and PhD in Economics from London University in 1979 and 1983.

Previously, he had served as the director of Sonali Bank and chairman of Janata Bank. He was also a senior research fellow of Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies.
